All Good News

What a wonderful few weeks we have had. A group of ladies from Forsyth Montana drove all the way here to help me catch up on the quilts. The weather was lovely and we got so many quilts labeled and just general straightening up. The weather was amazing. Thanks so much for your hard work.

The wonderful American Hero Quilters from Port Angeles had a booth at the Clallam County Fair. We have posted a picture of their booth in the Pot Potpourri section of our website. The theme of the fair this year was Paws on Parade. Our quilters put tags, scarves and flags on stuffed animals as well as displaying quilts. Their booth won first place for the Home Arts Building. Congratulations ladies. They auctioned off a quilt and very generously sent the money to us. I have already spent it on backing fabric. Thank you so much ladies.  Finally the ladies sent us 25 beautifully made and quilted quilts. This came at a wonderful time since our cupboard was bare.

For two years we have been attempting to get quilts to the medical unit at Qatar. We have had no luck. We have felt so awful about it since the charge nurse said that wounded coming from Bagram were always covered in our quilts while the warriors coming from other engagements had to use “itchy military blankets.” For various reasons the quilts were always stopped at the border. Finally we were able to get quilts to Qatar. Please go to the potpourri section to see the quilts already on the bed and waiting for their owners. We are so happy to have the opportunity to cover our heroes in Kandahar, Bagram and Qatar. Is your quilt among the ones on the beds? You must be so very proud. We would love to hear from you.

Happy Fall,

Sue

  1. How do we start a group? I know lots of quilting ladies that do amazing work!!! Also I have a couple of 5th grade classes that would like to help design some of the blocks & the “Lovely Ladies” as they call themselves can recreate their visions… Our school has many, many, many Military families from all branches as well as vets& Active Duty as well.

    1. Hello Amanda,
It sounds like you have already started a group. There really isn’t a template for starting a group. It is just people of like mind who wish to make quilts for warriors. If you are thinking of making quilts for American Hero Quilts we have the requirements on our website. We are always thrilled to welcome new volunteers and helpers. If you are thinking of making quilts for warriors in your home town the dimensions on our website seem to be a good size and you can get ideas about what you want or not want to do. Good luck. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

  2. This is Dorathy’s daughter. Let me know if there is anywhere else you are trying to get quilts. My friend is a Major (or maybe LTC now) in the Army, and his job is logistics.

  3. Great work! I found a link to this through the Bainbridge Island Modern Quilt Guild quilt festival and am so happy I did. I will be participating in this as soon as I can. Keep up the good work!

    1. We would love to have your help. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Please be sure to look at the pictures from Qatar on our website. We are so thrilled to be able to thank our wounded service men and women.
