Best and Worst of times

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Charles Dickens Tale of Two Cities

This is certainly how it has felt here this week. We had a call to send at least 100 quilts to Bagram as soon as possible. We didn’t have the quilts to send. We got a large delivery of quilts from a wonderful group from Stover, Missouri working through Stover Sewing and Vac. They got help from many vets in the area. They are all so beautiful. We got two more big boxes from a group from Port Angeles, Washington. This group has been so helpful for so many years. They had a booth at their county fair (see potpourri on the website for a picture). They won an award for their American Hero Quilt booth. They also had an auction to help raise money for us. Their contributions certainly were helpful. This was “the best of times.”

It was time to celebrate. We had the quilts and the wonderful people who help us take pictures came to help with the last step before we box up the quilts and arrange for pick up. For nine years the exceptional people at Final Mile Logistics have paid the very expensive freight to send the quilts to Bagram. We could never have gotten the quilts there without them. I gave them notice that 100 quilts weighing approximately 500 lbs were going to be boxed up and on their way to them. They informed us that they are closing on Friday and will not be able to send any more for us. This news was certainly distressing. We are very grateful to Final Mile Logistics and all their generous help over the years. Now we must find someone else generous enough to help us get the quilts to Bagram. Certainly this falls under “the worst of times.” I know we can figure this out. If any of you have any ideas we sure would like to hear from you.

Thank you all for all your support. We certainly have been fortunate to have so many wonderful friends. I love your commitment to our service men and women. You are all heroes.
