I am remiss in not writing sooner. Our family has been going through some problems with the health of my sister. We almost lost my sister and the impact on our family has been traumatic. On this day I could not help but reflect on all the families going to cemeteries and family gatherings to remember their loved ones who were lost fighting for our country. It has always been confusing to me when people say, “happy memorial day.” I have wondered what is happy about coming together every year to remember. I always hope that they do not think it is just a day to take a day off from work or to have a barbeque. I am so heartened when people bring their children to memorial day gatherings or to a parade honoring our warriors.
One of the most beautiful articles I read today is by Heather Cox Richardson. If you have an opportunity to get on line, read it. Her article was so moving and heartfelt, she encapsulated what we all should remember about this day.
We wish for peace.
