Veterans Day

On this day we celebrate veterans Day. It seems to me that every day should be Veterans day. Without the brave men and women who give everything for our freedom and safety, we would be a very different country. Thank you.

With the instability currently in our world I am concerned we will be asking much more from our heroes. Now more than ever we need to do everything we can to support these brave men and women.

While thank you sometimes does not seem like enough it helps in some ways. Last week a young man came here to ask if I could repair his quilt, his daughter’s dog had chewed a hole in it. He had received his American Hero Quilt when George Bush was president. He had fought in the Iraq war. His quilt had clearly been, as my grandmother used to say, “much loved”. I tried to convince him to take a new quilt. He refused. He said this quilt meant so much to him and had helped him through many difficult times. Thank you, quilters, for providing comfort and metaphoric hugs to so many heroes.

Thanks to our vets, our warriors currently serving and the families who also give up so much to assure our country is safe and our democracy continues to thrive.
