Welcome home Patrick Chess

Ordinarily all quilts are sent to wounded warriors. Recently we had a special request which we were thrilled to honor. I thought you would like to hear the story.
Patrick Chess was a shipfitter third class in the U.S. Navy. He was aboard his ship in Pearl Harbor when it was bombed December 7, 1941. Three months after the bombing his parents received a telegram saying he was missing. Three months after that they received a telegram saying he was presumed dead. His parents went to their graves not knowing exactly what had happened. Patrick’s nephew decided that he would try to bring Patrick home. He felt with the advent of DNA he had a chance. Unfortunately, the nephew passed away without knowing that Patrick’s remains had been found. Full military honors were afforded to him and to honor his nephews hard work. His ashes were placed in the casket with his uncle. Today, June 11, 2022 Patrick Chess was laid to rest at Tahoma cemetery, Yakima, Washington next to his parents.
A special American Hero quilt was given to the family in loving memory of this American Hero.

  1. Oh, that made me tear up. So glad they were able to bring him home where he belonged. Thank you for relaying that information, even if I’m a bit late reading it. I almost didn’t look further when the home page wouldn’t come up, but I decided to click on the other headings anyway, and they did come up.

    1. Thanks Susan, we had a computer glitch but worked it out, we hope.
We too were so happy he finally got to come home. We were thrilled to play a small part in celebrating his home coming.
